ROYAL MAIL
CHRISTMAS

ROYAL MAIL - MATCHING TREES
ROYAL MAIL - FRIENDS APART
ROYAL MAIL - TWO HEARTS
ROYAL MAIL - DIRECTOR'S CUT
Royal Mail's Christmas campaign is something of a British tradition, and the brief matched it: warm, moving, heartfelt music. Music that celebrates the bond between people who are close in thought but far apart — and Royal Mail is what brings them together.

The celesta and a high, crisp piano set the rhythmic base and the warmth — sounds everyone reads as Christmas without having to think about it. Strings rise out from under them, and a children's choir joins with a simple melody. At one key moment a trumpet enters, bringing the spark and tenderness of Christmas light and lifting the emotional gesture at the heart of each spot.

Each film then takes its own direction. For Matching Trees I used ostinato strings to build excitement, giving the story a sense of movement and adventure the picture only hints at. For Friends Apart and Two Hearts the music stays calm and tender, holding on to the warmth between two people thinking of each other.

The Director's Cut steps back from the Christmas atmosphere. It uses only a string quartet, going deeper into the connection between people and tying all three stories together.
