Golem

dir. Luboš Rezler · Perfilm CZ · Moloko Film
A metaphysical, atonal texture woven from pulsing unease and foreboding.
The word "golem" appears only once in the Hebrew Bible, in the Psalms, where it means something like shapeless or unformed. Medieval philosophy borrowed the same term for matter itself: formless hyle, substance before it takes shape.
The musical idea
01FormlessnessThe score mirrors that formlessness by refusing conventional melodic and harmonic development.
02PulseThe only organising principle left inside the texture: rhythm without melody or harmony, something nascent, gradually taking on a menacing shape.
03The mythClay breathed into life and motion, with no will and no face of its own, until it begins to act. The emerging pulse, heralding the creature, became the image of hyle taking form.
A vision This is not a musical narrative but a vision: a glimpse of the Golem waking beneath the stones of old Prague.
