EVERYTHING MUSIC SHOWREEL
The film has no dialogue at all. That became the starting point: the two main characters, a girl and her dog, speak to each other without words, and their conversation manifests itself as music.
I decided to carry it with the voices of a girl and a young boy singing an old Scots song about friendship. I chose Scots deliberately, because most of the audience won't understand it. The words are stripped of their meaning, and what remains is pure sound, emotion and the bond between the two of them.
Around the voices, the score explores unusual instrument colours and their combinations, melodic lines written for abstract vocals, and polyrhythmic patterns that keep the film moving without ever settling into a beat.
Synthesizers run underneath all of it, playing the bass lines that give the score weight where it needs it. In the space sequences they step forward: driving the launch and the landing of the rocket, and holding the film in long ambient planes while the characters are out there.
Special Mention at Zlín Film Festival. Screened at Athens International Film + Video Festival (Academy Qualifying), Palm Springs Animation Festival, Filmfest Dresden, Fest Anča and Febiofest, among others.
